This project is for the design of a new house in Gatlinburg, TN. The original house was destroyed in the fires of 2016. We kept the original footprint but reoriented the house’s focus to the south to take advantage of the great views and the southern light.
The Owner wanted a craftsman feel to the home which is reflected in the design of the front porch with the tapered columns, proportions and eave detailing. But they were also open to a contemporary window facade which opens out onto the deck facing the mountains. The window facade was designed with the idea of capturing as much of the view as possible but within the controlled order of the structure of the house. The result is – hopefully – a user who enjoys and appreciates the presence of both nature and structure.
