This project is for the design of a new house in Gatlinburg, TN. The original house was destroyed in the fires of 2016. We kept the original footprint but modified the floor plan to take advantage of the orientation (SE) and associated views.
The house is perfectly oriented a few degrees east of south, which gives the house great southern light exposure all year round. With the roof overhang we are able to keep direct heat gain to a minimum in the summer. The mountain view stretches from east to west and includes the well-known Chimney’s and Mt. LeConte. Open living for the great room and kitchen open out onto a deck through two large sliding glass doors.
While not many project include these views it is always important to take your site, the terrain, and the sun into context when designing and placing your home. This is just another level of design and detail that you won’t obtain through online plans.
